holy crap what can I say...you introduced us so, thanks...I guess... but wow when you came and gave the "Gypsy curse" the night before the wedding..there were my buddies and me all happy and joyous, doing old songs... our own and the Stooges et cetera.....and you had to take me into the other room and tell me that the edmonton "boys" had it all against us........you said something to my my future husband that had crying, barefoot, in the closet for four hours.

AS for the rest of you. I have a piece of advice.
Love your friend Darren. He's a great person. When all you Edmonton folks were hanging out in our backyard the day after, I noticed how much he made you laugh....and I suspect part of the hostility toward me had to do with the fact that I took your clown prince away.

So. When he meets someone he's crazy about, go ahead and have dinner with them instead of cancelling (twice) at the last minute. Instead of keeping a scorecard of ills just be friendly and open and willing to see how a person's personality unfolds. Don't judge some nervous or annoying missteps too harshly. Be nice.(Kind of like what my friends were like to Darren.) I know he would really appreciate it.

But maybe you just had an inkling it would never work and didn't think it worth the bother. Congrats, you were right.

Directions to Nanton

Nanton is 85 kilometres south of Calgary on Highway 2. Once you have passed High River, you're almost there.The highway splits in two when you arrive in Nanton, the northern #2 is to the east, and the southbound is to the west.

Nanton United Church is on 21 Street and Highway 2 South. It's a big pink stucco-y building. The Nanton Community Hall is on Highway 2 south and 18th Street--just past the Lancaster Air Museum. You can't miss it--it's the big green building by the shiny Lancaster plane and the park.

It's nice one (no hook-ups though) just across the #2 north--it's not listed in the phone book but we plan to book some spots--let us know if you want one.

wedding theme/what to wear?

The theme of the wedding is gypsy/cowboy/prairie/wildflower ...if you can read backwards you'll see that in the pic Darren's hands say "get gyppy".

So, if you want a guideline think Saturday night barn dance with a gypsy twist. In plainer terms, that means...ummm... festive casual? Keep in mind that it will probably be fairly warm in the hall. For those of you who care about such things, the colors are dark red, pale pink, coral and ivory.

The lovely Miss Natasha Fryzuk will be spinning gypsy beats (and other stuff---there will be something for everyone to dance to, we promise!)there'll be a church supper style buffet (with bbq beef, lots of fun organic salads, watermelon and vegan chili)so the main thing is to be comfortable.

Turns out there is a rodeo in town that weekend so you folks that plan to book rooms should do so soon. The Ranchland is very reasonable--$80 for two people for a night (with two double beds.) See above for the numbers of motels in Nanton.

Still no word on the campsite. I'm trying to find a number (no-one seems to know!) and if possible I'll book a couple of spots by the river for anyone that wants to sleep under the stars.
